Oil Age Cutlery was produced as a service for 2 (2 sets of 5 piece place setting, 2 sets of fish fork and knife, 1 pair salad serving, 1 pair serving), designed for BLOW UP in 2019 at Friedman Benda. In accordance with the theme of the show, all pieces are oversized.
There is a popular resurgence in the craft practice of carving wood spoons and other eating utensils. Using the same techniques and tools as normally used to carve wood, these HDPE versions remove the grain of the wood material and focus purely on the texture. It also pairs a primitive technique with a material most associated with modernity.
